Patatas Bravas is a classic Spanish tapas dish featuring crispy fried potatoes served with a spicy tomato sauce and creamy aioli. This bold and flavorful appetizer is a staple in Spanish cuisine, perfect for sharing with friends over drinks.


📝 Ingredients:

For the Potatoes:

  • 4 large potatoes (peeled and cut into cubes)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Olive oil (for frying)

For the Bravas Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 400g canned chopped tomatoes
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Aioli:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 clove garlic (grated)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt, to taste

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1️⃣ Prepare the Potatoes:

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water for 5–7 minutes until slightly tender. Drain and let them cool.
  2. Heat olive oil in a deep pan and fry the potatoes until golden and crispy.
  3. Drain on paper towels and season with salt.

2️⃣ Make the Bravas Sauce:

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan and sauté onions and garlic until soft.
  2. Add paprika, cayenne, sugar, and tomatoes.
  3. Simmer for 15 minutes until thickened. Blend for a smooth texture if desired.

3️⃣ Prepare the Aioli:

  1. Mix mayonnaise, garlic, lemon juice, and salt in a bowl until smooth.

4️⃣ Serve:

  1. Place crispy potatoes on a plate, drizzle with bravas sauce, and top with aioli.
  2. Garnish with fresh parsley.
